Team History

As a new addition to the school’s sports selection, Girls Wrestling has a relatively short history so far. Starting in the winter season of 2024-25, the team has been allowed the opportunity to grow in numbers and talent. The upcoming seasons should be an exciting experience, offering a wonderful chance to succeed in all aspects of wrestling.

Returners/Newbies & weight class

Hamilton has started the season with 7 girls wrestlers. Returners consist of slightly under half the team: Ana Ruggles, Korra Kapenga, and Alyssa Volkers. Ana, a senior, wrestles at 130. Korra, a junior, wrestles at 125. Alyssa, a junior, wrestles around 135-145. Newbies this season are Brianna Ortiz, Eryn Barnhill, Abigail VerHoeven, and Mykayla Provinence. Brianna, a senior, wrestles around 150-155. Eryn, a freshman, wrestles at 125. Abigail, a freshman, wrestles at 115. And finally, Mykayla, a freshman, wrestles at 120.

Schedule Highlights

The girls wrestling team is gearing up for an exciting season, kicking things off with a strong showing at East Kentwood in mid-December before heading into the Meert Memorial right before winter break. Close to the end of January, the energy ramps up as the team takes on an evening challenge at Hamilton against their peers, sharpening their skills and confidence. All in all, this builds toward February’s OK Conference Tournament, where the girls are ready to bring their hard work to the mat and show just how much they will grow in the coming season.

Season Outlook/Goals

The Hamilton Hawkeyes girls wrestling team enters the season with momentum and a growing sense of confidence. With tough matchups ahead and a roster of determined athletes, the Hawkeyes look poised to make noticeable strides on the mat. From early-season tournaments to their conference showdown, this group has the grit and drive to turn hard work into standout performances, making them a team worth watching all winter.
