A look into 2024
By: Carter Basinski
It’s always tough to end after such a good season but now we can look back and say goodbye to our seniors of boys tennis and look forward to what’s coming in the future for boys tennis. We will start by saying what an amazing season but now we will have to look at all the change going into the 2024 season, first off we start by losing our seniors, we will lose our number one singles Marco Catalano, Marco is a one year exchange student from Italy. Marco earned his way to first singles and kept it that way going undefeated throughout the regular season, then went on to take first place in regionals. Another senior we are losing is Jackson Miller, he was second singles for boys tennis. Jackson went on to have a great season finishing 21-4 and Jackson went on to make it to the regional semi finals. Next we are losing our number two doubles that being Jace Mitchell and Colin Hamlin, these two had a really good season finishing 18-8 and ending in regional semi finals. The last two seniors we are losing from the 2023 season are our number three doubles Joshua Bush and Even Talsma, these two had a great season finishing 20-6 and making it to regional semi finals.
Now what is in the future for Hamilton tennis? Although we are losing a lot of seniors we have a lot of hope in our upcoming classes we will start with junior Seth Lappinga he was Varisty’s third singles and had a final record of 19-2, we asked Seth Lappinga what he thought led to the success of the undefeated season he said “adding Marco to our team was a big part of our success, but mainly Marco was able to win every match but also that put everyone in positions where they could win and this lead to an undefeated season”-Seth Lappinga. Another player we are excited to see more of is Dylan Loew. Dylan Loew had a remarkable season finishing 23-3 only as a sophomore playing fourth singles on varsity and took home the regional title. We also have a lot of future in the doubles starting off thing varsity’s first doubles Aiden Hamiln and Reece Carlson these too are both juniors and finished 22-4. The last returning varsity players are our fourth doubles, Grayden Lubbers and James Anderson, Grayden is a freshman and James is a sophomore and these two finished 19-6. Hamilton also has a lot of good upcoming sophomores and freshmen that were on the JV team, Hamilton’s JV had a very good season as well.
So in the end I think that boy’s tennis is losing a lot of valuable players but also has a lot of good upcoming players that we will see next season. So overall I think you should look forward to the 2024 season as we have a lot of young talent on the Hamilton tennis roster.
