Every day, so many student-athletes are stepping foot into their sport, playing hard for the win. Along with their sporting events, they are asked to do well in the classroom. In the third edition of “Hawkeye Spotlight”, we recognize even more student-athletes who are excelling in their sports and the classroom.
Boys Soccer – Griffin Bolhuis
- Griffin is a 2-year starter on the varsity as their goalie.
- He has 6 games this season where he has allowed 1 goal or less.
- He has played soccer his whole life.
- Qualified for the A team twice last year and the honor roll once.
Boys Cross Country – Noah Hernandez
- Noah has been running cross country since 7th grade.
- His PR is 17 minutes and 5 seconds.
- He does the high jump and runs the 2 miles in track and field.
- Noah went to state for cross country and track as a sophomore.
Girls Cross Country – Caroline Johnson
- She is the captain of the Varsity team.
- Caroline has been running cross country since 7th grade.
- Her career PR is 23:04.
- Some extracurricular activities she participates in are band, theater, and Science Olympiad.
Boys Tennis- Jackson Miller
- Jackson Miller is the No. 2 singles for Hamilton Varsity Tennis who is currently undefeated with a record of 19-0-1.
- Jackson helped the Hawkeyes in the Division 3 regional championship playing No. 2 singles last year since 2015.
- Jackson and his family are also hosting a foreign exchange student named Marco Catalano who is also on the tennis team.
- On top of being a great tennis player, he is also a great student in the classroom.
Football- Logan O’Conner
- Logan plays on both offense and defense. He is a Wide receiver on offense and safety on defense.
- He has been playing football since he was younger this year is his 9th year playing football.
- Logan not only plays football he also is on the basketball team.
- Currently is in strength and movement and he runs a 5.00 second 40.
Girls Swim and Dive – Alyssa Volkers
- Alyssa has an individual state cut in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:05.81. This time currently puts her at 23rd in Division 3.
- She’s also a part of our 200 medley relay team that qualified for the state meet, with an overall time of 1:59.47.
- Alyssa went a 27.98 on her 50-fly split in the relay. The med relay is currently 11th overall in Division 3.
- She has been swimming for 10 years.
Volleyball – Ally Kragt
- Last week Ally had 13 kills against Fruitport.
- Ally is a starting outside hitter on varsity.
- Against Unity and Fruitport she had 10 digs, 4 aces, and 2 blocks.
- She has played volleyball since 5th grade.
Girls Golf – Sierra Rietema
- She started playing in freshman year because she wanted to try something new.
- At Oak Ridge, she shot a 58.
- She always makes a point to stretch before every match.
- Sierra averages around 55.
