Who is Brooks Hawkins? Brooks is a sophomore at Hamilton playing on the varsity football team which doesn’t happen often but that’s why I chose to interview him, to hear his story on how he got to where he is now and give people a look into what he does in everyday life to stay in shape and continue to grow as a person and a player.
Brooks says he stays in shape by going to the gym very frequently and running track in the spring. He holds multiple lifting records in the school and is also running varsity track. Some of his goals for the rest of his high school career in sports are to help lead the team to multiple playoff appearances and win multiple playoff games. He also would like to help bring Hamilton football to be recognized as one of the top football programs in the state of Michigan. His favorite position to play on the field is inside linebacker because he gets to be a run stopper and make tackles as well as still being able to be put into pass coverage.
Some of Brooks’ other interests include spending time with his family and friends, watching his brother Jon play football at Olivet University, and he also enjoys lifting weights in his free time. He loves to watch Michigan football games with his family and the Lions with his dad.
He started playing football because he and his dad would always watch the Lions game together when he was younger. He would always play catch with his dad and brother in the backyard. Then he started playing organized football in the 4th grade and his passion for the sport just grew from that into an obsession.
His plans for the future are to keep playing football into his college career. His dream college to play at would be Ferris State or Grand Valley University. He is unsure what he would like to study, but he is thinking about kinesiology. He would like to learn more about the human body and how it functions. This could lead him to become an athletic trainer or a personal trainer. He would also love to be a football coach one day so he could continue to be around the game he loves.
Brooks currently is tied for the most solo tackles on the varsity team only as a sophomore. He will continue to work hard at the sport that he loves so much in order to continue playing and coaching for as long as possible. Lots could happen with this young star in the next few years where he hopes to start on offense and defense and lead the team to many victories in the future.
