Out of all twelve of the Boy’s Varsity Tennis players, there is only one Freshman. His name is Grayden Lubbers.
Grayden has been playing tennis since he was little. He learned from both his father and grandfather, who has coached the Hamilton Tennis Team for the past 24 seasons. Grayden loves playing tennis and he’s good at it, which is evident in being the only Freshman on the Varsity team.
We asked Grayden why he chose to play tennis in a previous interview.
“It’s the sport I’m best at,” he told us, “and it’s been in my family for generations. I felt like it is a part of me.”
Grayen plays doubles with Sophomore, James Anderson,, and is currently 5-2. It’s fun being able to watch Grayden play with James, especially since they were paired together in middle school.
“It’s cool being part of the [Varsity] team,” Grayden said. “I get hazed for being the youngest, but I know they’re joking and we’re all friends.” It’s exciting to see how the Varsity team, though they are older than Grayden, are treating him like one of their own.
Grayden is a three-sport athlete who plays basketball in the winter and golf in the spring. He likes ketchup and chili on his hot dog and would be a sloth if he could. He loves pineapple on pizza and thinks that he wouldn’t survive a zombie apocalypse out of all the people on his team. He describes his personality as Ranch dressing because he’s Zesty and would switch bodies with Marco Catalano, who is an exchange student from Italy.
Grayden hopes to continue playing tennis through high school. We are all excited to watch him play for the rest of the season, and hopefully into future seasons.
