Weekly Spotlight of the student-athletes who are competing this season

Every week, Hamilton student-athletes put the black and gold uniforms on and put their very best foot forward in the playing arena. These Hawkeyes also are asked to meet a standard in the classroom. ‘Hawkeye Spotlight’ is a weekly feature wherein we recognize those performers that contribute to the moments on and off the field that represent our school.

Girls Golf – Junior Melanie Martin

  • Melanie is expected to be a captain this season.
  • Averaging a 55 so far this season
  • She has been on the varsity roster since freshman year
  • Her experience will be useful for her in recurring matches

Football – Senior Ben Boehm

  • Ben is a 3 year varsity football player for the Hawkeyes
  • Scored 5 touchdowns on 9/8/23 vs. Fruitport
  • Ben is also a punter for the varsity football team
  • Runs a 4.37 second 40 yard dash

Volleyball – Senior Joelle Boeskool

  • Joelle is the starting all-around setter
  • She had 7 aces against GR Union
  • Joelle is being mentioned as one of the top players in the area
  • She has played volleyball for her whole high school career

Boys Soccer –  Senior Seth Vigil

  • He is one of the three team captains this year
  • This is his second year being on Varsity
  • So far, he has made 2 goals and had 2 assists
  • He has improved a lot throughout his time on varsity by being faster with the ball

Boys Cross Country – Junior Abatu Dykstra

  • Placed 3rd place in the West Ottawa Bredeweg Invite 
  • His 5k personal record is 15:44 
  • Has participated in Cross Country his whole High School career 
  • Made it to the state meet as a freshman and sophomore 

Girls Cross Country – Junior Maya Wettlaufer

  • She has improved 5k PR by 1:43 making it now 23:05.5
  • She was the first hawkeye finisher in the West Ottawa Bredeweg Invite
  • This is only her 2nd year doing XC in High school 
  • She has plans to continue doing XC next year for her senior year

Boys Tennis – Juniors Reece Carlson and Aiden Hamlin

  • They are competing at a high level in the #1 doubles category
  • Reece Carlson and Aiden Hamlin doubles partners 
  • They  double as friends off the court

Girls Swim and Dive – Sophomore Adi Garvelink

  • Has been a part of Hamilton Swimming for 8 years
  • Competed at the state championships as a sophomore and freshman
  • A strong start this fall and already met the cut times to swim at  state this year
  • Has already qualified for state on medley relay team
