Meet the Athlete: Emma Reilly, Girls Swim and Dive

By: Maleena Luckadoo

Emma Reilly is a key part of the swim team at Hamilton High School. She has been swimming for 10 years and swims the 200 IM, 200 and 500 freestyle, and the 4×1 relay.

She loves swimming because “There is such a physical barrier you have to push past and a mental barrier.”

She believes that swimming is one of the best workouts you can do. It’s one of the many reasons she joined swimming, and she’s not wrong. Swimming burns a minimum of 223 calories per hour. Having goals is important when you are playing a sport to keep yourself motivated. Some of Emma’s goals are to go to state and prove to people she can do hard things. We asked Emma what she does to help her do her best and get focused for her events.

She told us “I like to listen to music before every race and blast it.”

Emma’s been on varsity since her freshman year. Now a junior, she has learned and improved her skills as a swimmer and has managed to push herself past her limits. Next year, she said she will be sad about it being her last but she is living in the moment and enjoying this season.
