Hamilton Stunned Host Falcons In OK-Conference Crossover
By: Kenzie Matheny
On October 17, 2003, Hamilton played a memorable football game that will be remembered for years.
The Hamilton Hawkeyes and Allendale Falcons were both tied for first in each of their conferences. Hamilton in the O-K Blue Conference, and Allendale in the O-K Silver Conference.
Everyone was betting that Allendale would win this game. They had a good run during the 2003 season, and weren’t looking like their streak would end that night.
Allendale wasn’t the only one with a good streak.
The Hawkeyes won their conference game 9-0. Their elite offense blew past their conference opponents. October 17’s game was meant to be a close one.
During the game, Hamilton’s offense dominated Allendale. Point after point, they could not keep up.
Though Allendale was able to put 20 points down, they simply could not catch up to Hamilton’s offense.
Hamilton scored three first-quarter touchdowns. Their quarterback, Matt Mokma, paved the way for the team and scored two of the three first-quarter touchdowns.
Hamilton defeated Allendale 48-20 and went on to go to District Final.
Matt was humble about the victory, saying, “Our line was great tonight, and it really opened up some things for me…I can’t take a lot of credit for this. Coach calls my number, the line opens up, and I am gone.”
The Hamilton varsity coach, Chris Myers, says how their offensive line was strong that night. “It’s always the game plan to come out that fast in the first quarter…to score as fast as you can.” He said.
In the 2003 battle against Allendale, Hamilton won 48-20, and it would be talked about for years to come.
