Precision and Craft:

A golfer making his mark.

Playing golf requires craft, playing it at a high level requires much more than just that. It takes hours of practice at the driving range, strength training for a longer drive, and the mental ability to lock at every match to play to your highest capability.

Senior golfer Grant Petroelje not only has craft, but he also embodies every single trait of a great golfer.

Grant has been playing golf for six years and played two years on the varsity team. Growing up, Grant has always loved golf, but Tiger Woods was what really pushed Grant into playing for the school.

“Watching Tiger Woods win the Masters in 2019 got me into golf, and I’ve been hooked ever since,” Grant said.

Ever since Grant started to play golf, he has been working hard and finding every way to get better at his craft.

“Practicing a ton, going to the driving range and putting green frequently, watching professional golf and learning from that”. This just shows how committed and driven Grant is to be the best golfer that he can be at all times.

All this hard work and dedication to his craft has paid off. Grant has played very well this season and has proven why he is a top golfer in our area. Grant has played a numerous amount of good courses, including the Lawton Blue Devils Invitational, where Grant took 2nd out of the entire tournament. Petroelje also has shot a career high 72 this year, which is a very solid score.

Even with all of this success, Grant has had some hardships. Playing golf has its ups and downs, and Grant can definitely say that he has had his.

“At times it feels like no matter how much I practice, it’s tough to get better and shoot better scores,” Says Petroelje.

Grant also said, “I can’t hit my driver straight,” showing just how frustrating golf can be.

Even with these hardships, Grant has always found a way to push through and get himself and his teammates on the right track. These qualities are what make Grant such an important leader and captain on this team.

Grant will be attending Trine University next year and has plans to try out for the Golf team. Grant’s hard work and dedication to his craft is what has gotten him this far and will most definitely be what gets him where he wants to go in life and on the course.
