How your love for your sport influences your success.

Much like Spencer Lee, a wrestler who tore his left ACL in 2021 and went out to win the NCAA tournament title, these wrestlers have a great love for the sport that they do. Some players are going on four years of high school wrestling and some just one. Passion for the sport is something that they all share, and it keeps on growing.

Hamilton wrestlers all have different things that motivate them to keep wrestling and things that light a fire in them.

Some people think about how much one person’s passion and love for the sport affect the team. And to answer this question I talked to Chase Morrison and Aly Pelon and they both said passion is a very important thing to help you succeed in this sport.

Chase Morrison is a freshman here at Hamilton High School. He is 46-4 this season and has competed at the MHSAA individual state finals in Detroit at Ford Field and placed 6th.

As the young state qualifier Chase Morrison said,

“I have been wrestling with some of these guys my all life and it is cool to be on a team again.”

For Chase wrestling is more than just a sport. It is a family and community that comes together to support each other. That to him, is very important in a team.

Winning isn’t always what it gets chalked up to be because once you win most people will expect you to just keep winning. And sometimes if you don’t win then you might feel you let them down in a way.

Aly Pelon is a senior on Hamiltons’ wrestling team. This is her first year wrestling and she has found to love the sport through friends. Her record this season is 10-19. Aly believes that mistakes make you stronger if you take them in stride.

Aly Pelon says “I think it’s okay and necessary to be disappointed after a loss. It shows you care, but it’s not enough to be disappointed.”

Losing is a key component to recognizing the mistakes that you have made so then you can work to improve those areas and then, move on.
