Imagine stepping onto the mat, getting ready to face an opponent who’s one goal is to get you on the ground. This is the reality for junior Bryce Morrison. With nine years of experience, his wrestling journey started in 3rd grade when his dad encouraged him to give wrestling a try.
Wrestling runs deep in the Morrison family, Bryce’s father was a four-year varsity wrestler in the Lansing area and has been a coach at Hamilton since 2001. In an interview with Bryce he mentioned that his father has had a great impact on his wrestling career and is one of the factors that motivates him to continue down this path.
“My dad really helps me with like all the mental aspects of wrestling and tries to help me with all my nerves and he kinda just helped me really love the sport.”
Bryce and his father’s relationship is one that has had a great impact on shaping Bryce into the wrestler we see today. Bryce and his father share a unique bond
Balancing the physical and mental demands of wrestling can be challenging but Bryce has found ways to keep it enjoyable.
“ I just try to remember to have fun while wrestling and enjoy everything I’m doing.”
This positive mindset has helped him stay focused and motivated throughout his wrestling career. One significant moment that impacted Bryce’s career was his freshman year at state.
“ In the blood round, I lost by one point. That really motivated me to work a lot harder in the offseason and change what I was doing.” He explains his goals for himself as “Just to be the best I can be as a wrestler.”
Morrison is much more than just a state-level wrestler. Outside of wrestling Bryce enjoys hanging out with his friends, fishing, and also works at Diamond Springs Golf Course. Bryce has attended hamilton since elementry school where he began at hamilton elementary. After highschool Bryce wants to continue his wrestling career in college and intends to be a Physical Therapist. Bryce also mentioned that his two favorite class are Algebra Two with Mrs. Bramlett and Chemistry with Ms. Mack.
Bryce mentioned that his biggest inspirations are his dad and his club coach. “My coaches have helped me by always believing in my abilities and coaching techniques and positions.”
Bryce Morrison’s dedication and passion for wrestling is evident, and his journey is one to watch. His commitment to the sport, combined with the support and guidance from his dad and coaches has shaped him into a well-rounded wrestler.
