Summer Of Uncertanity

Summer Of Uncertanity

The Boy’s Varsity Soccer team faces challenges without a coach over the summer

The Boy’s Soccer season was faced with unique challenges, it wasn’t just a summer without a coach, but the start of a new season with new players. “Even though we didn’t have a coach heading into the summer, some of the senior players stepped up to help lead the team.” Bobby Samuels claims.

The soccer team had to work together to help turn their setback into an opportunity for the team to grow together throughout the summer.

Players Thoughts

Many of the players felt it was unfair that they had to go through the summer without a coach. “It felt like the program was being neglected.” Drew Bierschbach explains. With so much uncertainty around getting a coach, the soccer team felt like it was not a priority.

“Although many players didn’t go to summer training since we didn’t have a coach, many upper-class-men stepped up during training and took charge which was definitely helpful.” Justin Stark explained.  With the help of the upper-class men, the boys could run practices for the team.

They also lacked, “time to get accustomed to his play style and his methods of training. And we saw that play out over the season, we were trying to learn a new system during our season.” Justin Stark points out, well though the other schools had a coach over their summer, and this put their team at a disadvantage. While the other schools were working on strategies and building their skills in the season,  we were still working on the basics of learning how the new coach would coach.

The Comeback

While this led to a rough start to the season, the team started to make leaders. Gavin Sabala stepped up and helped make a path to have a better team. Even though he was also uncertain he made a way.

This started to build off and make the team believe, even without a coach.  With time running out to get a coach on the field, the players weren’t the only ones that were getting anxious.

They received the news that the varsity soccer team got a coach with only a couple of days before tryouts. Coach Noah Chambers would be a part of the team.  The team went into their first game with a coach, and with the determination they needed to be successful.
