There’s 30 seconds left, you are down by 2 points. This is a situation that a lot of wrestlers find themselves in. The time is running down and you are not on the leading side of things. How will you get those last couple points? I spoke to a couple Hamilton wrestlers to see what they had to say.

When you are in this situation there are a lot of different things you can do to get those needed points quickly. I talked with wrestlers Bryce Morrison and Tyler Block about this and this is what they had to say. “Go for a big throw or 5 point move” Says Tyler Block when asked about getting points quickly. When asked about this both wrestlers agreed their go to move was going for a throw or a headlock.

Well what should you do when you’re up in the final minutes of your match? Should you stall and just try to avoid your opponent? The simple answer is no. If the stalling is clear enough you may even get called for a stalling penalty. When you’re up, what you should do is keep the pedal down and pile on the points. When I asked Tyler Block about this he said “Keep pressure and try to break them physically and mentally”. This just shows how persistent and determined you have to be to win wrestling matches, even when you’re up.

When you’re in a wrestling match there’s certain things and moves you want to do and there are things you don’t want to do, things that will get you pinned. When I spoke to wrestlers Bryce Morrison and Tyler Block they both had the same response. “You don’t want to get thrown in a headlock” says Bryce Morrison.

There is a lot of skill and technique that you need in order to get wins in wrestling. But there also are simple things that can affect your chances of winning. If you have a top position or bottom position. When I asked Bryce and Tyler about their own personal preference they both said top position is their favorite. “Whatever you prefer, but personally top” says Tyler. This all just shows how simple yet complicated getting wins in wrestling really is.
