Meet the Athlete: Ethan Goodwin, Wrestling

Meet the Athlete: Ethan Goodwin, Wrestling

By: Lucas Veenstra

Ethan Goodwin is a 12th grader who has been wrestling for a little over 8 years. He may not be the most talkative athlete around, but that doesn’t mean his actions don’t speak volumes.

When asked who inspired him to wrestle, he said “I think Andy Cook inspired me the most by being the first coach I had. Wrestling wasn’t a big thing in my family and I just wanted to try it and my first year I went to state so I stuck with it.”

Recently Goodwin has reached the 100-win mark, which is something the majority of wrestlers will not reach during their high school years.

Since he has been wrestling for a long time, naturally he was able to grow closer with his coach. He’s been noted to be reliable and respectful to his teammates.

In terms of power, Ethan has been described as “one of the strongest pound-to-pound kids on our team”, and I have confidence that this is no exaggeration.

Head coach Trenton Holyfield said, “I couldn’t ask for a more disciplined, good-hearted kid.” As well as believing Ethan to be “a wrestler that has great ability on the mat and a wrestler with great character off the mat.”

Ethan says in the event that he does not pursue his wrestling career further, he wishes to enter the workforce after high school concludes.
