He sailed into the water; every second counts. Conscious of what is at stake, with adrenaline rushing through him. Reece Nykamp is a current junior on the boys swim and dive team, he also was on the varsity football team as a defensive tackle. He currently swims the 200 free and the 500 free. This season, he hopes to get a state cut in the 200 free and get his 100 free down to 50.0 seconds. With Reece being a team captain, he is working hard to motivate his team and stay positive.
Reese impacts his team positively as he tries to give younger players someone to look up to.
Teammate Kellan VanDerMeulen describes Reece’s captainship as “His willingness to show up every day, saying encouraging things to his teammates, being on time for practice, and showing up to optional practices even when he doesn’t want to.”
His positive feedback to his teammates becomes a real game-changer and instills confidence in the team.
Coach Liz VandeWege says, “He’s vocal and encouraging during practices and meets.”
