The boys’ swim and dive 25-26 season is up and running, as their first meet was on the 6th at Otsego. The boys performed very well and beat all 4 teams at the meet.
These boys have been training year-round and are in place to hopefully place in the top 10 in the state meet this season.
I spoke with Brodie Brown, and I asked him what he did to train in the offseason, and he said, “ I trained somewhat year-round and mainly did lighter practices.”
Jayden Bierschbach is another key player, and when asked what he did to train in the off-season, this is what he had to say: “I just dive a lot, anytime I can get into the pool and I also lift and do drills.”
This year’s team is going to look drastically different, as the top 6 swimmers from last year’s state meet were seniors. They have lost Landen Maatman, Owen Lewis, and Justin Stark, along with other key swimmers.
But just because they have lost key swimmers doesn’t mean they don’t have a chance. The head coach, Liz Vandewage, said, “I think we’ll be pretty well off as long as my 2nd and 3rd kids in events stay positive, working hard so we can earn as many points as we can get.”
Zach Bain is one of the promising swimmers who we are hoping is able to stay consistent. This season, I do not think that the season rests on the shoulders of the first placers. I think this season rests on the shoulders of the second and third placers.
But of course, I can not write a swim article and not write about Jack Langeland. Jack has shown tremendous growth in his past 3 years of swimming at Hamilton. Jack even has a school record and is coming back for more this season. When asked what he did to train in the off-season, he said, “I swam every day for my club team, and I also lifted.”
The boys should have great PR’s and even better wins this 25-26 season!
