Student Spotlight: Junior Track Athlete Jenna Dozeman
By Bethany Kalmink
As the school year comes to an end, we take a moment to shine a light on some of the athletes here at Hamilton High School. Jenna Dozeman is a junior, and she’s on the varsity track team. Being on a varsity team means she’s one of the top athletes, which is a pretty big deal.
Jenna shared some of her thoughts about being on the team. When she was asked about the best part of being on the varsity team, she mentioned the people. She said, “The best part of being on varsity is all of the people and friends I get to hang out with every meet.” It sounds like she really enjoys spending time with her teammates. Having good friends around can make any activity better; the team environment is something she values a lot.
Of course, being on the track team isn’t always easy. Jenna was pretty honest about the tough parts. She says, “The most challenging part of being on track is definitely running and doing a lot of events in one meet.” Running is already hard. Doing many different races or events in a single competition can be really challenging.
Even with all the challenges, Jenna has learned some important things. She shared a big lesson she’s learned: “I’ve learned that no matter what happens, you just need to be grateful that you get to run.” This means that even if a race doesn’t go perfectly, or if practice is tough, she tries to remember that she’s lucky to even be able to participate.
