Erin Meiste and Taylor Heer Fill but Never Replace

After the graduating class of 2024 left, the girls tennis team had some important spots to fill. Luckily, Erin Meiste and Taylor Heer joined the team and showed their skills.

Erin Meiste, a freshman, and Taylor Heer, a junior, took a brave step and showed their strengths.

Tennis is a very mentally challenging and very technical sport, requiring you to keep your composure and have good hand-eye coordination and strength control.

For these two girls to have come and play on the varsity team their first year of High School tennis is very impressive.

One of the two new players that we are covering on the girls tennis team is Erin Meiste. Erin played 2nd singles this year, proving her skills in her first year on the team.

We spoke with Coach Mack, one of the two assistant coaches on the girls varsity tennis team, who told us

“Both these girls have very high potential and bring lots of positive energy.”  and continued

“Erin jumped in at second singles, which was the perfect spot for her because she was getting a year of experience not playing the number one players but really good players”.

She hopes to be playing 1st singles and be a team captain by her senior year. She has fit in very well with the team and the team dynamic. Coach Mack told us,

“Erin’s potential is sky high” and that “she is very technically skilled.”

She had a great freshman season, even though she was battling an injury towards the end of the season, but she hopes to rebound next season.

The other new player on the girls tennis team is Taylor Heer. Taylor played 4th doubles this year, showing her ambition and wanting to be a part of the team. Coach Mack told us,

“Taylor is really athletic, so she’s a very good doubles addition for us”. She is hoping to be either 2nd or 3rd doubles by next year, which would be her senior year.

She brings lots of energy and positivity to the team. Coach Mack said,

“Taylor is very kind and fun, and is a great addition to the team and the team dynamic.”

Taylor just started playing this year and has already improved tremendously. Taylor and her partner Maddie won their flight at regionals this year. Which is a big accomplishment for a new player and her doubles partner.

Both these girls are extraordinary players and have great potential if they stay healthy and stick with the sport. They will do good things with and for the team, helping bring the team to state another year like this year.
