Hamilton girls’ soccer has been through a lot of success in past years, going to the district finals in the district tournament in 2023, as well as defeating tough opponents in the conference. But with lots of seniors having graduated in the last two years, the team was in dire need of players who could fill their absence.
The introduction of so many players to a varsity team, especially since many of them are sophomores, may seem daunting at first, but they have contributed exceptionally to the success of the team. Goals, assists, and positive vibes are part of the magic that the first-year varsity players bring to the field.
While a lot of the rookies have been starting and displaying their skills on the field. When asked how the rookies have adapted so far this season, Joselyn Paskvan said,
“I think that they have a lot of talent coming in.”
Joselyn also pointed out that,
“Their mindset has been really impactful and that they’re really willing to learn and help others.”
Grace Sexton, a freshman on varsity, who has had a lot of impact on the ball as a midfielder, was highlighted by Joselyn
“Because she is always so kind, on and off the field.”
Senior Sierra Rietema has said she thinks that the rookies have “adapted well,” and that she feels like
“They’re a big part of our team culture.”
Senior Maddie Stoel added her thoughts on the rookies’ impact by saying,
“They fit in really well, and have a lot of maturity to be on varsity.”
The rookie girls have been putting in a lot of hard work and effort into the team to feed into its success.
Without the rookies and their positive attitudes on the team, Joselyn said,
“We wouldn’t be as connected, we wouldn’t be as friendly.”
The future of the girls’ soccer program is looking good. When asked about future teams and success, Maddie Stoel said,
“I think as long as there’s not big injuries and they keep working hard, they’ve got like a good mindset and they have the right ideas down.”
If the rookies keep training hard and putting in max effort, they will get used to being successful moving into the next few years. Sierra Rietema added by saying,
“Yeah, I feel like their hard work, and just like, drive on the field would be a good foundation for the program moving forward.”
The rookie girls have been a huge part of the team this season with their skills and their mindsets. They will certainly continue to bring success and a good mentality to the program.
