High School Career

Among the lineage of the great Hamilton wrestlers of all time with 183 career wins, Malachi Kapenga. Malachi has been wrestling for 13 years. He has always been a quiet and humble individual, but his leadership throughout his 4 years has grown tremendously.
Malachi has always had a crazy amount of success throughout his wrestling career. In high school wrestling, his record was 183-19, and he pinned 89 kids.
His work ethic is like no other. I grew up with Malachi from an early age, and he’s put in a crazy amount of hours practicing to become the great wrestler he is today.
Kapengai’s faith has been huge for him throughout his high school career. His role model is David Carr because “his faith is so inspiring and he is always glorifying God. I want others to see that in me, knowing that all his success isn’t possible without Jesus Christ.”
“I have been training since I was 4 years old.” Malachi has worked harder than most people I know. He separates himself from so many because of the time he puts in. He loves the sport and has developed many amazing friendships that have pushed him to get better.
He has traveled to several different states to compete in different tournaments and camps. This has helped Malachi see crazy good competition.
Sophomore year, Malachi followed in his uncle’s footsteps, winning the State Championship at weight class-113! Malachi’s Uncle Andy Cook won the State Championship in 2002 and today is the assistant coach.
Malachi talked about his favorite memory in high school was winning state in 2023. Malachi finished his sophomore year with a 48-4 record, absolutely dominating his opponents.
Malachi was a 4x state placer, finishing 6th place freshman and senior year, 8th place junior year, and then a State Champion sophomore year.
In conclusion, Malachi Kapenga’s high school career is a testament to what can be achieved through hard work, dedication, and a passion for the sport. His ability to dominate in tournaments and competitions while also inspiring teammates to reach for the top. As Malachi’s high school career comes to an end, he has left a legacy that will inspire future generations to want to be great.
