An insider view on number 22, Joselyn Paskvan, a junior on the Girl’s Varsity Basketball team. Joselyn had been playing basketball for around seven years now. Joselyn’s role for her team is being a post, and she does a really good job.
Joselyn is 17 years old and enjoys doing lots of things with her friends and her family. She not only works on her sports during the season, but she takes lots of her free time during the summer and the little time she has during off season to go to camps, play travel soccer, and do things on her own at home.
While Joselyn is on the court, she strives to be the greatest teammate and player she can be, not only for herself but also so she can help the team.
When Joselyn was asked what motivates her, she responded,
“The challenge of basketball, I like the grind, and I want to work hard, and challenge and push myself, which motivates me to work hard. As well as my family, and friends who come to watch me play. I want to play well for them.
During practice, Joselyn focuses personally on her defense and being able to get her team better. She also focuses on what she can do in that moment to create a chance or stop. She focuses on the moment in exactly the play they are working on.
Joselyn has a few basketball role models who are personally related to her, her older cousins Bria and Sierra Schrotenboer. She was then asked why and she said,
“They played basketball and were good, and I always want to play like them.”
I asked Coach Malloch what she thinks of Joselyn on and off the court and she replied,
“Joselyn as a human brings energy and a healthy amount of silly and goofiness to the team, which keeps everyone loose and not very tense. And as a player she’s aggressive, the best version of herself is rebounding, defending other teams really good post players, and attacking the basket, and she has gotten so much better this year at attacking the basket.”
Not only does Joselyn have an amazing basketball talent, but she also has a talent for Soccer and diving. She is a very motivated individual and strives to be the greatest player and person she can be.
