A girl’s basketball player tribute
By Genesis Hanse
Imagine sitting in the audience of a girl’s basketball game, watching the players keep pushing on despite the clock ticking down the last few seconds. You see each player helping each other and working together to keep pushing through. Each one of those players has a story and different experiences that put them in that exact spot and moment. Joselyn Paskavan is a junior and one of Hamilton High School’s girls’ basketball players. She’s been playing basketball for seven years, and each year, the program changes. “The basketball program has felt a little different from every year that I’ve been a part of it, the biggest difference is the jobs we have to do on the court. Every year, I get new teammates with a new set of skills compared to the ones that left, so we have to do what we’re best at collectively, which can change from year to year. Team chemistry is always slightly different every year as well.” – Joselyn Paskvan
She has learned a lot through her season, “You’re not always going to be perfect. All you have to do is get better little by little because it adds up in the end.” -Joselyn Paskavan
Joselyn has been playing basketball and soccer. She compared them and said that some concepts of basketball apply to soccer. She also said it’s exciting to share tactics and knowledge between sports, she is grateful to have the privilege of playing both.
Basketball has not only been a sport but has also impacted her life, by helping her create new friendships and meet people who will leave a lasting impact. It has also taught her lessons and been a fun way for her to challenge herself athletically.
Thanks to basketball, Joselyn had some experiences like having team meals and sharing funny jokes. She also gets to spend time with her friends and have lots of fun with them while playing basketball. She also gets to go to summer events and see exciting games.
Joselyn recalled some of her favorite memories and best moments, “My favorite memory is not a specific moment, it will be all the little inside jokes and times that we died of laughter during team meals and practice” -Joselyn Paskavan
Joselyn hopes to continue enjoying life and sports and become the best version of herself, both in and out of them.
Joselyn Paskvan is a great player who loves the sport, the team, and all the experiences and fun she’s had playing it. Basketball will leave an impact on her; it helped her learn to challenge herself and think creatively.
