Player Tribute: Amelie Ramey
By: Colie Breuker
Now the cheer season is over, but the memories aren’t. As the memories live on, so do all the friendships. I recently talked to Amelie Ramey; A senior, who’s from Germany. Her favorite class is Mental Health Awareness or Psychology because she loves to learn about the brain.
“When I saw cheer on TV I was drawn to it, but I also saw the competition and wanted to be a part of that team.”
As Amelie got ready to head to America for not her first time but the first real time. All the packing and nerves that led up to her arrival.
Back home in Germany Amelie also does other sports, including horse riding and dancing for carnival. One thing she said that is different between them all is that in cheer everyone is screaming and hyping each other up, whereas horse riding and dance are solo sports.
When Amelie got here she didn’t know many people, but now halfway through the year she has close friends and family.
This is her first season in cheer and she told me her favorite part of cheer was at practice when you would hit your first stunt and everyone would cheer for you and congratulate you, no matter how good or bad it was. ” I have only been cheering for the six months during my exchange year, but one thing I’m going to miss is the team and coaches.”
As I got to know Amelie I got to see how she has been growing in school and personally. I got to ask her questions about Germany and how she says it’s been going so far. One question I asked Amelie was who really motivates you. “My mom motivates me because when I tell her I want to do something she encourages me and tells me to do my best.” Also, “A huge motivation is when one person on the team is giving their one-hundred percent and no matter what kind of mood you’re in they will get everyone excited. ”
When I talked with Amelie I could see the light in her eyes and see the true joy she has when she talks about cheer. Something she said she is going to take home with her is to “Just do it” and to not have any fear, no matter if you’re scared because if you’re scared you won’t do it and you could miss out on a lot of opportunities.
One thing that Amelie is going to miss when she goes back home to Germany is the family she has created on the cheer team and all the friends she has made.
