“Seeing everyone be happy when we win and seeing the joy we all have”. Happiness and joy are highlights of Brett VanderKooi’s experiences as a High School Varsity basketball player. Brett is seen as a successful player on the court as well as on the sidelines encouraging his teammates to communicate and work together as well as being a cheerleader for their success.
Brett Vanderkooi is a senior at Hamilton High School. He plays varsity basketball and varsity Baseball. His future plans include attending Adrian College to play baseball as that is his first love.
One of many memorable parts of playing on the basketball team this year would be when Hamilton defeated Untiy Christion in overtime. After the hard-fought game against Unity, the crowd was electric. Brett said
“it was cool to see how the whole community responded to it ”
After games and at practices the team focuses a lot on fixing the mistakes that they have made in the game before. They also work to see what other teams are doing and how to defend against them and ultimately score points against their opponents.
In the off-season, Brett likes to spend time outside hunting, fishing, and hanging out with friends when he is not busy.
To Brett, the most inspiring thing is seeing hard work pay off, which is true in basketball, baseball, and life.
Overall, Brett has had a great season offensively and defensively. He is a great person to be around and loves what he does. Next year, Brett will attend Adrian High School to fulfill his passion for baseball.
