Girls Track Pre-Season Article

As Seniors graduate they leave a mark on teams and it is no different than the Girl’s Track Team.
We asked some returning players how the graduates of 2023 left their mark on the team Aliyah Springer said “They were like the foundation of the team. They had been there the longest and they were able to display a level of confidence in their abilities that put the team at ease in high-stakes meets.“ Followed by Jenna Dozmen telling us “We had some very fast seniors last year which will be hard to match this year. “
This kind of loss can be lethal then we get left with the question of how the freshman will affect the team? Track is a very mental sport because you run by yourself unless you are in events such as the four-by-four and if you are in the field events, but overall, you are by yourself and you are the only one who can lift yourself up during the hard times of your races and this kind of personal accountability can be hard for someone new like the freshman. Aliyah said, “They have the potential to do so, they just have to work hard to achieve it.” Jenna Dozeman followed along by saying “There’s not a ton of new freshmen but I think they can help fill in some holes”
As it is obvious we did lose very important assets to the team such as Emma Hyerman, Ella Schwarts, and Trina Faris. The season could end one of two ways, better or worse than previous years. Seeing how the season is just now starting we asked the returners to predict the end of the season. Jenna Doezman started by saying “No idea.” Track can be a difficult sport to analyze because not only is it what you do after practice but it is what you do before or after. You need to eat well, drink a ton of water, make sure you stretch and roll out, and do anything that will better your body. Following that Aliyah told us “Hopefully better than last year, but I know we lost a lot of talented athletes from the previous years. Maybe this year will be a (hopefully good) surprise?” as it is her senior year it is understandable to want to have a good season but just like Jenna, she cannot be certain because of her sports uncertainty.
No matter what way the season goes the girls will run, jump, and throw their hearts out as this is a sport they love and will continue to improve in throughout their high school career.
