The Journey Of Dani Wedeven

The Journey Of Dani Wedeven

Being a tri-athlete, Dani doesn’t have many breaks during the school year. Through all of the practices, games, and matches, she holds a 4.0 GPA, something some student-athletes couldn’t say they’ve done.

Dani’s main sport is tennis in the spring. She still enjoys golf a lot, now playing for her 3rd year straight. Dani said, “I started playing golf because I like being outside and doing a sport.” She is a very active and eager person who likes to be active and competitive. She takes this mentality into all her other sports too. She tells me that her mentality and love for sports is what keeps her focused throughout each season.  Her coaches love this passion from her as well. For example, when she told her basketball coach that she was playing this year, she hugged Dani and told her, “I’m so glad you’re playing this year.” She brings her passion and work ethic to every team she’s on, and it showed this fall on the golf team.

As a student athlete, Dani is not only focused during the sports season, but debatably more focused inside of school which is a remarkable thing to think about. The contributions she brings to her team each season as well as killing it in school makes her a 1 of a kind student-athlete. Some say “student before athlete” and this is something that Dani can say she’s done at a very high level. This hasn’t been something she’s been doing for just this year, but for her entire school/sports career. She is the definition of consistent and reliable and a teammate who can be counted on to perform day in and day out. Not to mention coaches strive for a student athlete like Dani and her success is displayed in her work ethic. Dani is a very busy person and how she can keep her stride throughout the whole year is very impressive. She displays what a student-athlete should look like and is an inspiration to others around her.

Throughout all the different sports Dani plays, she has countless memorable moments. Sticking in the golf world, one that stands out is her shooting a 55 at Spring Lake Country Club this year. She explained this as “being a reward for all the hard work I’ve put in this season.” This being her new PB, this felt very good for Dani and is something she can take into next season and build off of it. She was hitting her stride later into the season and this PB can only carry over into her senior year. One can assume because of how focused Dani is throughout the year, this helped her succeed this season on the golf course.

Dani is someone who can be looked up to in sports and out, displaying excellent leadership and the capability to uplift her team in any given situation. Through all the games, practices, homework, and tests, she can do it all. The way she balances this at one time makes her the perfect fit for any team.
