The Volkers sisters have been consistently swimming for nearly their entire life. The sisters started their swimming career at the young age of 3 and their drive to be better has not slowed down. Being on the same team in the same grade as sisters is bound to start a rivalry. It also in many ways has made them closer, as both of them said “ doing the same sport strengthened their relationships with each other.” For being freshman they have definitely both made a name for themselves as they are both on the 200 medley relay, a race that consists of backstroke, breast, butterfly, and freestyle.
They have already made a few state cuts while their team is in the top ten for state rankings.
Swimming alone is already a very tough sport but adding on to the fact that you are competing as a freshman adds a whole other layer to it. The competitiveness can be added to or decreased depending on the stroke/style that you swim. Additionally, the sisters are on the same 200-medley relay team. This same team is going to the state meet in Detroit. This really shows how talented and well-versed in this sport these sisters are.
Their times are already comparable with the seniors on the team. Considering this is their first season they have a lot left to accomplish and everyone is excited to see what they can do.
