Girls volleyball had a challenging year this year, but they fought through and worked together as a team. They ended the season with an overall record of
18-14-1. They ended the season with a conference placement of 4th.
The girls ended their season in the district championship against South Christian, which was a tough loss. The girls lost the game 3-1. Another tough loss was one against West Catholic. The girls lost that game 3-0. But these girls also had some amazing wins. They outplayed Unity Christian 3-2 in a tough match. The girls had fought and worked together as a team. They also had an amazing win against Hopkins in the district semi-finals, winning 3-0.
This season, they only had 3 seniors on the team. They all played different roles that were important in different ways. Joelle Boeskool was a starting setter who had been on Varsity since she was a freshman. She was also a team captain this year and was very trusted by her teammates. Another senior, Emma O’Connor, was a middle blocker for the team. She was a 2 year varsity athlete and was also very uplifting according to her teammates. The final senior, Kenzie Brinks, was an Outside/Right Side hitter. She was also a 2 year varsity athlete who was also very positive and uplifting according to her teammates.
Coach Britney Fogerty was asked about how she felt about the season and said, “Our season was good. Started out on a high winning streak with a 1st place tournament, then we fought hard in conference, and ended the season again with a small winning streak. The girls were working for a winning record and they got one. This team is so close knit it was like being with a family everyday.”
We wanted some of the players’ opinions too so we asked 3 different juniors what they thought of the season.
Hannah Glupker feels that, “We started out pretty strong with winning the Gull Lake invite. We had a point towards the middle of the season where we lost a decent amount and weren’t playing to our fullest potential. However, towards the end of the season was where we hit our peak. I feel like as a team we finally trusted each other on the court and that played a huge role in our performance in games”.
Lauren VanOmmen said, “I think the season went pretty well. We grew together as a team and accomplished many things. We had so much fun together and I wish it didn’t end so soon.”
In Ally Kragt’s opinion, “This season was really fun. But we did have some points where we struggled. We eventually figured out how to work together and trust each other. As a team we made a lot of goals that we accomplished. This season was a fun one that was full of memories.”
This team had some rough patches but this year Varsity Volleyball ended the season with a winning record. They improved and learned how to work together as a team over the season. There is always room for improvement but this team improved every single day. Towards the end of the season they finally began to trust each other. Everyone on the team brought energy, positivity, and was uplifting. Throughout the rough patches, they stayed positive and pushed through it. This team was like one big family and the graduating seniors will be missed. Overall, it was a very fun season and the team did well.
