Why teamwork is important on a sports team?

For some, teamwork pops up in our brains as we work together as a group to complete a task. Some people see it that way, but others see it in a different way when it comes to teamwork while being on a sports team. One player on the boy’s Hamilton Hawkeyes Varsity Football team Tyler Michielsen speaks on what teamwork playing on a football team looks like and the importance behind it to him.

The first question is why is teamwork important? “Teamwork is important because of the things you can achieve. Working together allows for bigger things to be accomplished.” Teamwork in a sports team is deeper than others see it, like he said working together allows bigger things to be accomplished so teamwork is very important and valuable to the players.

Another question I asked was how does teamwork impact the way you play?

Everybody needs to do their job in football. If you think of the Unity game. We had maybe 1 or 2 people who didn’t do their assignment, which cost us the game. Just 3 or 4 plays where all 11 weren’t doing their job. Everybody needs to do it, it makes things easier and better.” “Easier and better” are words everyone wants to hear when working on a team. Doing their job in the game will make them succeed and easier and better are words you always hear.

The last question asked was what are the most important qualities of being a good teammate to make teamwork work? “Have fun, be productive along with being supportive, and trust your teammates.” If you don’t make the game fun and have no trust in your teammates the teamwork becomes poor and causes problems so having good teammates who give it their all makes the team stronger and more reliable.

Teamwork is impacted altogether by how much effort and how much you truly care about what you’re doing because if you don’t give your all, the teamwork will lack, and your outcome will be bad whether it be at practice or in a game.
