The Journey of Madden Miller

The Journey of Madden Miller

Playing multiple sports can be a rough task for a lot of high school students. The task of balancing academics and playing numerous sports can be challenging, but Madden Miller can make that possible.

Madden’s main sport is soccer but she still is on the Varsity Golf team stating “I enjoy playing lots of different sports.” She takes a unique approach to balancing both. Her coach had some input stating “I could tell right away from the start that she was going to be a player with a lot of motivation, passion, and drive to improve” which shows how good a work ethic she has. One of her favorite hobbies is to lift weights. Not only does that help her in soccer, but it makes her more potent while she swings the club. While lifting can come in handy, the amount of time she works on her craft really takes her game to the next level. Madden spends much of her time at Hamilton’s home course, Diamond Springs.

While spending a lot of time at the range, she improved a considerable amount at using her 8 iron which resulted in her saying “My 8 iron is my favorite club”. That resulted in it being her favorite club. When she gets the opportunity to use it, she consistently scores well on the hole she is playing. “Madden has a great natural swing that serves her well. When she makes good contact with the ball she can hit it far” Coach Statema stated. On average, Madden shoots in the mid 50’s on 9 holes. Her experience of playing and knowing what clubs to use in different situations takes her game to the next level.

Madden has a lot of memorable moments but there is one that stands out. “My first match at Pigeon Creek in the OK Blue Jamboree was the most important match to me because it was the first time I had played golf competitively and it was a big moment for me as I was trying something new for the first time.” Ever since that moment, she enjoyed the sports and just kept on going. Her coach stated, “I believe Madden can be a great golfer and have a rewarding season next year.” Which shows if she keeps going, she can achieve anything.

The best thing is that she is able to balance the stress of school, multiple sports, and her endless hobbies of volunteering, being a soccer coach and traveling. Madden stands out as someone who can “do it all while having a smile on her face” and does it all. She is a model athlete for the Girls Golf program.
