Hawkeye Spotlight – October 13

             There are a lot of unique things that go around in the Hamilton athletic department that no one seems to know about. All the different people that don’t get the coverage that they deserve. In our fourth edition of “Hawkeye Spotlight,” we share the key people in our athletic program that make the unique aspect of the program an elite level.

 

Boys Soccer – Drew Bierschbach

  • Drew has been playing soccer for about 10 years and has been on varsity for a year now.
  • This year, he made the change from his old defensive position to his new one as Right or Left Wing/Midfield and has learned to love it.
  • His favorite thing about soccer is playing with his closest friends, and he loves the great community that comes with it.
  • He has a GPA of 3.934 and has gotten A Team four times and Honors twice.

 

Boys Cross Country – Damian Widner

  • Damian has been running cross country for Hamilton for four years and has a PR of 18:08.2
  • Not only does Damian run cross country, but he is also on the Hamilton Track team.
  • Damian’s favorite thing about cross country is the people he gets to be around “It is a close-knit good place to be.”
  • In Damian’s free time, he likes to relax and hang out with friends.

 

Girls Cross Country – Cora Williams

  • This is Cora’s second year running cross country.
  • Cora’s PR is 24:37.
  • Cora also plays basketball and runs track on top of running cross country.
  • Her favorite thing about running cross country is when you’re racing and you pass a lot of people.

 

Boys Tennis – Grayden Lubbers & James Anderson

  • Both Grayden and James are varsity newcomers.
  • They’re the 4 doubles flight for the tennis team. 
  • Their regular season record was 15-3.
  • They finished 2nd in the OK Blue Conference tournament with a huge upset over Holland Christian in the semifinal of the tournament.  

 

 

Football- Cyrus Berens 

  • He has been playing football for 10 years and plays slot and safety. 
  • He played running back in rocket football and switched to slot and safety at the start of middle school and until now.
  • His favorite thing about football is being able to run the ball in space because that’s when he feels most confident in his ability.
  • Outside of school, his favorite thing to do is hang out with his friends.

 

Girls Swim and Dive – Sandra Rodriguez

  • She is a foreign exchange student from Spain who currently just moved here.
  • It’s her first year as a swimmer.
  • Her 100 free time is 14.84
  • She is currently a sophomore.

 

Volleyball – Kenzie Brinks

  • In her free time, she enjoys going to the gym and hanging out with her friends.
  • Kenzie’s favorite part of being on the team is the bonds that she has created with her teammates and coaches. 
  • She has been playing volleyball for 7 years.
  • This year is Kenzie’s 2nd year on Varsity.

 

Girls Golf – Dani Wedeven

  • As a tri-sport athlete, she keeps herself busy all year round with basketball in the winter and tennis in the spring.
  • While playing sports all year, she maintains a remarkable 4.0 GPA even as a student-athlete.
  • At Spring Lake Country Club on September 27th, she shot a season-best 55.
  • Even though she’s played golf all 3 years she’s been in high school, this is her first season competing at a varsity level. She started playing in the first place because she enjoys being active and being outside.
