Everyday, twenty student-athletes go out to play on the Hamilton Varsity Boys Soccer team. One of those players is a junior named Justin Stark.
Justin plays center back and has been on the varsity for 2 years. This year, he is captain along with Seth Vigil and Gavin Sabala. Justin has played soccer for twelve years and is very passionate about it. We were able to ask him what he liked most about soccer in a recent interview.
“I just love the way it’s a team sport,” Justin told us, “there’s no individual aspect about it. If you’re gonna win you need eleven players to win, you can’t have one person win the whole game for the team. It’s not just one person who saves the goal, it’s the whole team.”
Justin has played exemplary so far this season. It is evident that he is a leader on and off the field. They currently have four wins, ten losses, and one tie.
“Justin is a leader for the team both on and off the field.” The varsity boys soccer coach, Mr. Robinson, told us. “On the field as a center back he can see the whole field and what’s happening in front and to the sides of him. He’s a good director of traffic and being able to get players up and back. Off the field he’s just a great encourager. He’s a positive guy, a hopeful guy. Somebody who helps rally the troops with a positive attitude.”
Justin likes ketchup and onions on his hotdog and would be a panther if he could. He would switch bodies with Tristan Patch, junior, and would be a panther if he could. He thinks that Zinabu would be least likely to survive a zombie apocalypse out of everyone on the team and his personality could be described as a cheeseburger because he has many layers.
Justin would like to play soccer in college if he can. But while he’s here, we can’t wait to watch the rest of his season and hopefully next season too.
