Meet the Athlete: Marco Catalano, Boy’s Tennis

By Maddie Klein

Crushing his first varsity tennis season. Marco Catalano, a 16-year-old exchange student from Sardinia, Italy, is currently undefeated in singles play. The Hamilton High School Varsity Boys Tennis team was delighted to have him as he has a record of 15-0-0. Marco is a hard-working athlete.

Marco has been dominating his varsity single matches. No one can beat him.

He is amazed at how different tennis is in America than it is in Italy.

“Playing tennis in America is a lot different than playing it in Italy. Here, in fact, I play for the school and in a team of people who are around the same age as me and they go to my school. In Italy, I played in a club where I trained with people of different ages and from other cities than mine.”

From going to training for tennis three times a week to now having tennis practice every day is very different for him.

Marco started playing tennis seven years ago. He decided to start playing tennis after watching some matches on TV and he was very fascinated by how the players hit the ball very hard and they moved very quickly on the court.

Marco was recently interviewed and asked what his favorite part of being on the Varsity Boy’s Tennis team was and his response was,

“My favorite thing about being on the Varsity team is the fact that I’m playing for my school and that my team is composed of the best tennis players in my school, and playing the first single is a big responsibility that I’m very happy that I have to face.”

Marco is saddened that he will not have the opportunity to play tennis in the United States again next year but he is making the most of it while he has it.
