Meet the Athlete: Griffin Bolhuis, Boys Soccer

By Zoe Heneveld

A good goalie is a key part of winning a game in soccer. For the Hamilton Boys Varsity Soccer team, that goalie is Griffin Bolhuis.

Griffin is the goalie for the Hamilton Boys Soccer team. He has been playing soccer ever since he was five and has been on varsity for two years. We were able to ask him what he likes most about soccer in a recent interview.

“For me, I just like the competitiveness about it. Being on the team is really fun, especially because you’re playing with your friends.”

Griffin has played very well this season, it is evident how big of a leader he is on the field. If you have ever gone to one of their games, you can definitely hear him leading the team. Griffin is on his way to being a four-year varsity player, which is well deserved. He always works hard and never gives up, even if they are down by a lot. Currently, their season record is four wins, ten losses, and one tie.

“He was a freshman last year as one of our goal keepers.” The boys soccer coach, Mr. Robinson, told us. “He’s made key strives as a goalkeeper, which is a really important position on the field. He’s matured, the experience he got last year has really helped him this year as a sophomore. I mean he’s still young as an underclassman, so he’s still learning the ropes a little bit. But he’s improved by leaps and bounds since last year. But last year really helped him as a varsity athlete. Year two he’s just getting better and better.”

Griffin likes mustard and ketchup on his hotdog and would be a cheetah if he could. He hates the idea of pineapple on pizza and would switch bodies with Noel Vigil. Waffles would describe his personality because he is interesting and you can add things to it and thinks that Keegan Johr would be the least likely to survive a zombie apocalypse out of everyone on the team.

Griffin would like to play soccer in college if the opportunity presented itself. But while he’s here, we can’t wait to see what he does the rest of this season and into future seasons.
