Adaline Garvelink is a sophomore at Hamilton High School. She is on the Varsity Swim and Dive team and has been swimming for 8 years. During state, she swims the 50 back in the Medley relay and the 100 breaststroke. She usually swims the 200 individual medley and sometimes swims the 100 fly.
When asked how it feels to be on varsity, her response is: “It doesn’t feel much different than in middle school, just harder.”
Adi’s grandparents influenced her because “it makes them happy and so proud and they’re people that are very important to me.”
One of her biggest motivations is making her grandparents proud and getting better to win. Adi’s favorite thing about swimming is the feeling she gets after finishing something hard because she loves winning.
To get out of a bad headspace, Adi reminds herself why she is here and thinks about who she is trying to make proud. Something that makes her passionate about swim is the drive she feels for herself and her team. She is also passionate about this sport because she likes the way that it mentally pushes her and makes her feel good about the work that she accomplished at the end of a practice or meet.
Adi would want to continue swimming in college if she received a scholarship.
